India
The Indian plastics industry made a promising beginning in 1957 with the production of polystyrene. Thereafter, significant progress has been made, and the industry has grown and diversified rapidly. The industry spans the country and hosts more than 2,000 exporters. It employs about 4 million people and comprises more than 30,000 processing units, 85-90 percent of which are small and medium-sized enterprises.
India will be investing Rs 40 crore (US$ 6.2 million) to increase the domestic production of plastics across via various plastics parks. This will achieve environmentally sustainable growth and increase employment.
Telangana
Telangana is one of the the leading states for manufacturing of moulds and tooling for FMCG products.Telangana has a strong presence of plastics industry with about 6,000 units operating in the State, of which about 90 per cent are MSMEs.The organized plastics sector employs more than 1+ lakh people.
These industries contribute to a turnover of over Rs 6,000 crore. And the production capacity is 9 lakh metric tonnes. Of these 6,000 units, 28 per cent are micro, 55 per cent are small, 15 per cent are medium while the remaining 2 per cent are large scale companies.

Telangana is one of the first states to allow engineering plastics manufacturers to set up their units In industrial parks and products they cater to. Vidhata dyes and moulds, a manufactures in plastics domain was given allocation in E-City EMC to allow for end to end manufacturing of electronic products.
Other Enabling Factors
As the primary industries like Electronics, medical devices, aerospace and defence, food packaging and automotive are focussed sectors which are on a growth trajectory, the plastics industry is also seeing a formidable growth as the engineering plastics companies work closely with all the above mentioned sectors.
