CM Revanth Reddy Discusses AI-Driven GST Reforms with Economist Arvind Subramanian
CM Revanth Reddy discusses using AI to boost GST revenue and curb tax leakages with economist Arvind Subramanian.
As Telangana’s economy rapidly expands, Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy held extensive discussions on using Artificial Intelligence to increase GST revenue in the state and on formulating a robust plan.
The Chief Minister met noted economist Dr. Arvind Subramanian along with senior state officials at the Bodhi Pavilion, MCR HRD Institute. The discussion focused on moving forward in a planned manner to improve the state’s financial position.
They specifically discussed reforms to be undertaken in the GST and Excise departments with Dr. Subramanian. It was made clear that a special AI-based information system would be made available to GST officials to make their work easier.
Dr. Subramanian explained that this process should not cause any obstacles or difficulties for businesses, and that technology should be used to improve ease of doing business while also increasing revenue to the state treasury.
The Chief Minister said that coordination gaps between departments should be addressed to curb tax leakages. He suggested that, particularly to curb leakages related to building and construction materials, coordination should be achieved through an AI-assisted system among the Municipal, RERA, Panchayat Raj, Power, Finance, and Commercial Taxes departments.
He said that at the permit application stage itself for large buildings and contract works, construction material requirements and corresponding tax estimates should be recorded. He noted that integrating this data along with MeeSeva, Aarogyasri, and CM Relief Fund details would be useful for administration.
CM’s Adviser K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Secretary Sri Sanjay Jaju, Commercial Taxes Department Secretary Sri Raghunandan Rao, Excise Commissioner Sri Ch. Harikiran, and other officials participated in the meeting.
