Industry outlook, Opportunity in Telangana

India

India is the world’s 3rd-largest pharmaceutical industry by volume and 11th-largest by value, with a domestic market size of USD 60 billion projected to reach USD 130 billion by 2030. India accounts for nearly 20% of global generic medicine supply and is among the world’s leading vaccine producers, supplying nearly 60% of UNICEF’s vaccine demand and meeting a significant share of global vaccine requirements.

Pharmaceutical exports reached USD 30.5 billion in FY25, with exports to 191 countries worldwide, of which nearly 50% are directed to highly regulated markets such as the United States and Europe. India also hosts the highest number of USFDA-approved manufacturing plants outside the United States, reinforcing global confidence in the quality and reliability of Indian pharmaceuticals.

Telangana

Telangana has emerged as one of India’s leading life sciences and pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs, contributing nearly 40% of the country’s pharmaceutical production and accounting for one-third of global vaccine production. Home to over 2,000 life sciences companies and more than 269 USFDA-approved manufacturing facilities, Hyderabad is widely recognized as the Life Sciences Capital of India.

The state has attracted over ₹80,000 crore in life sciences investments over the past two years and continues to strengthen its position through world-class R&D infrastructure, Genome Valley, strong talent availability, and a progressive policy ecosystem supported by TG-iPASS with approval timelines of 15–30 days.

Vision 2030: To position Telangana among the world’s top life sciences clusters through innovation-driven and tech-enabled growth, while building a USD 250 billion life sciences economy, generating 500,000 new jobs, and attracting USD 25 billion in investments.

K Satish Reddy
Chairman, Dr. Reddy's Lab
We are currently present in 58 countries and have a turnover of around $2 billion a year. We scouted the country for finalising the location and decided on Hyderabad. Infrastructure, quality talent, advanced education system and the warm support from the authorities of the state have attracted us to this place.
